Robert Hart, a crafts marketing
expert known for his work on
behalf of Native American arti-
sans, died January 30, aged 88.
He became involved with hand-
crafts as manager of the South-
ern Highlanders, Inc. from 1946
to 1952, and served from 1962
to 1993 as head of the Indian Arts
and Crafts Board of the
U .S .
Department of the Interior in
Washington,
D C .
He was
named an Honorary Fellow
of
A C C
in 1993.
.. Laura Russo,
who ran her eponymous art gal-
lery© in Portland, OR, for 23
years, died of cancer on Febru-
ary 11. She received a Gover-
nor’s Arts Award, and was
honored for her sendee by the
Portland Art Dealer’s Associa-
tion. The gallery continues
under the ownership of its long-
time manager, Martha Lee.
Memorial donations may be
made to the Portland Art
Museum or the Pacific North-
west College of Art.
